A List of My Most Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you tutor the ACT as well as the SAT?
Yes. I tutor both exams and have a similar track rate of success on both (my ACT students improve by 7.8 points on average)
What is your rate?
A: My rate is $1,000 an hour. You can also try The Green SAT System and The Green ACT System for under $1,000, and I'm happy to make recommendations for more affordable tutors within my network - just let me know what you're looking for via my contact page.
How soon should I start my child prepping for the SAT?
A: I recommend starting as soon as possible. The sooner this process is out of the way, the more time you have to devote to the myriad other demands of the college application process. Many of my students work with me their freshman year, and I've noticed no difference in performance among grade levels. Please be sure to book me as far in advance as possible, as I'm usually not available for last-minute preparation.
Do you provide college assistance, or do you focus solely on the SAT and ACT?
A: I work with all my clients to provide guidance in the college application process. However, I am a tactician, and I am focused primarily on test prep. In particular, my knowledge of specific colleges and universities is limited, and I always recommend working with a reputable college consultant to help your child pick the appropriate schools for application. I have a large network of expert consultants that reserves spots specifically for my clients when requested.
Do you provide references?
A: Yes - I provide unlimited phone and email references from students and parents upon request
How do I know your process will work?
A: I have a higher average score improvement than any other SAT or ACT tutor in the industry. When we speak, we can go over the precise details of my methodology and set realistic expectations for your child's improvement.
Where are you located?
A: I travel between Manhattan and Los Angeles. I work with clients all over the world via online software - I no longer meet face-to-face, as my online clients actually see larger score improvements than my in-person clients.
Do you travel to your clients?
A: No. All of my sessions take place online.
How often will we meet?
A: I prefer to meet with my clients one or twice a week for 90 minutes a session. You can learn more about my exact meeting schedule on my policies page.
How many hours will this process take?
A: While this answer is different for every student, most of my clients work with me for between 20 and 60 hours.
Do you offer a guarantee?
A: I guarantee my instruction will change the entire way that you think about learning and test prep. Due to the highly variable nature of test prep, it is impossible to offer any sort of objective guarantee (some of my students come to me with 2320s, others with 1000s), but you are under no contractual obligation to work with me and can discontinue your lessons at any time if you feel that you're not receiving a world-class-level education. I track student progress regularly, and you'll always have a clear idea of where your child is currently scoring and how quickly he/she is progressing. You can learn more about my policies and methods in my free booking sheet. If you want a traditional guarantee, you also have the option of booking my $100,000 bet.
Do you accept last-minute clients?
A: I prefer not to. Firstly, due to the demand on my schedule, I'm usually booked too far in advance to accept last-minute clients. Secondly, I view SAT prep as a long-term process. "Cramming" and "crash courses" simply aren't effective enough to gain my endorsement.
Do you offer group classes?
A: No. All of my tutoring is done one-on-one. Group classes have been proven ineffective countless times. Don't waste your money or your time.
What is your schedule like?
A: I prefer to work on weekday evenings and afternoons. I will sometimes work on Sundays depending on he needs of my clients. For international students and students in different time zones, I will also work during the day on weekdays.
Which methods of payment do you accept?
A: I accept check, cash, and online credit card payment via PayPal, as well as bank wires.
Am I (the client) under any contractual obligation to continue sessions with you?
A: No. If you are not satisfied with my instruction, you can discontinue it at any time. Any money paid in advance for future sessions will be returned to you. This has never happened in my history as a tutor, working with over 400 students.
What makes you different from a Kaplan or a Princeton Review course/ master tutor?
A: Nearly everything. Please read about my methodology to learn more.
Where did you attend college?
A: I went to Columbia University after receiving a 99th percentile SAT score.
