The SAT is coming up tomorrow!  I hope you're all ready!

Following is an email I just sent to my clients outlining my 24-hour strategy for optimal SAT performance.  Check it out and follow these step-by-step instructions to get the best SAT score possible.

Good luck!

Hello Parents and Students,I hope you're all excited for tomorrow - I know I sure am!  I'm holding my breath for May 24th (the day scores come out), and I'll be in touch then to see just how victorious you all are!I wanted to give you all a quick game plan for today and tomorrow morning.  The devil is in the details, or so they say, and all these little steps can do real wonders.  Here are my recommendations for today and tomorrow:Today:1. Take it easy.  Don't do anything too physically or mentally strenuous.  Your brain needs to be treated like a muscle, and you need to give it a day to rest up before the big test.  If you have any big projects you're working on, just avoid them.  There's always Saturday afternoon.  Additionally, make sure not to do anything too physically strenuous, either.  If you're completely exhausted tomorrow, you'll have a tough time focusing.2. Avoid stress.  If you have any big issues to deal with, whether it be a boyfriend/girlfriend issue, something to sort out with a buddy, a confrontation you need to have with your boss...just put it off.  Today is a day to treat yourself like a king/queen, and to avoid nonsense.3. Eat A LOT of food.  Healthy, delicious food.  Get your protein, your healthy fat, and especially your complex carbs in the door.  Pretend that the SAT is a marathon - you want to have your blood sugar levels nicely topped off.4. If possible, get 45 minutes of extremely light aerobic exercise.  A long, brisk walk will do.  Studies repeatedly show that your brain function is elevated a day after you engage in this sort of activity.  Grab your favorite music and go for a stroll.5. Do NOT go out tonight.  This goes without saying.  Chill at home and be a dork.6. Drink A LOT of water today.  You want to completely hydrate yourself today, because you don't want to drink 10 bottles of water before you walk into your SAT.  I don't need to explain why.  Hydration is essential for brain function.7. Get everything ready for tomorrow before you go to sleep.  Print out your testing ticket, get your photo ID, lay out a comfy, layered outfit, and stuff your bag full of AA batteries.  If necessary, print out directions to the testing center and make sure you and your parents know how to get there.  Grab a bunch of #2 pencils.  Have it all set up so you're not looking for this stuff in a panic tomorrow morning.8. Go to bed EARLY.  Very early.  If you're having trouble falling asleep, do what I always do: take a freakishly cold shower for 3-5 minutes, then hop in bed.  It might sound counter-intuitive, but when you do this, you slow down your body's metabolic rate significantly, and you'll pass out like a sack of bricks.  Tomorrow:1. Wake up AT LEAST 90 minutes before you sit down to take your test.  It takes your brain about 90-120 minutes to "boot up."  You don't want to be groggy and out of it when you sit down - there's nothing worse than toggling from a dream about golden butterflies to solving multi-variable equations.  Give yourself time to wake up.2. The SECOND you are out of bed, grab a big, healthy breakfast.  You need to fuel up before the exam, but you also need to give yourself time to digest.  Whole grains, some protein, some healthy fat.  And please, NO SUGAR!!!  Chase it down with a nice, big glass of water.3. If you usually consume caffeine, consume caffeine!  If you don't, don't!  You need to keep your caffeine schedule consistent - today isn't the day to go through withdrawal, nor is it the day to turn into a jittery mess.4. Shower up, then go on a brisk walk.  Get your blood flowing.  You'll be sitting for at least 4 hours.  You'll thank me for this advice later.  Throw on your iPod and walk for 10-15 minutes.  It'll wake you up and help to keep you alert throughout the day.5. Wear comfy, LAYERED clothing.  You don't want to think about being too hot or too cold while you take your test, so dress accordingly.  I've heard horror stories of 90 and 50 degree testing centers.6. Double check your belongings, then get to the testing center as early as possible.  You don't want to stress yourself out at all this morning.  So get in early and make sure everything is accounted for.  Also, bring a bottle of water and a light, healthy snack (granola bar, handful of peanuts, banana) that you can down during your breaks.  Remember: you won't be able to bring these into the testing center with you.7. Tear out a page of Writing, Reading, and Math questions and try to solve 4-5 of each of them before you take your test.  This might sound strange, but it'll help your brain to boot up and to get on the SAT wavelength. Trust me - this works.  Just be sure to throw them out conspicuously before you walk in.8. GET IN THERE AND CRUSH YOUR TEST!Let me know how it goes!  I'm expecting all good news!Have an amazing pre-SAT day, and I'll see you on the other side.
